Covergirl truMagic Skin Perfector Mattifier Review

Hello! Browsing the drugstore the other day I came across this new product, Covergirl Trumagic Skin Perfector Mattifier. I'm always up for a new mattifying product so I decided to try it out. If you want to see what I think of it, click below!

This product is basically a primer, but you can use it in a few different ways. Under your makeup, as your "setting powder" or to blot your face throughout the day. I've used it all 3 ways. I'll tell you I don't have a ton of luck with primers, my skin is really oily and a lot of primers tend to make me even slicker unfortunately. I'm still in the process of finding the best products for my oily skin and giant pores. Anyway! The packaging is a little large, but still very simple and sleek looking. The lid closes tightly so I don't feel like it would open if I just threw it in my bag. The product itself is a soft touch balm. They provide a sponge to apply it with. They claim it is oil-free and won't clog pores, which I agree with. This product has not broke me out either which is great!

Using this as a primer: I applied it to my t-zone using my fingers, then did my foundation as normal. It made my face very smooth, not greasy like some primers have in the past. It also really did a great job of minimizing my pores. We went out for a friends birthday, and a few hours into the night I noticed my face was oily, but not as oily as it would be if I used nothing at all.

Using it as a setting and blotting powder: I used the sponge to pat it onto my cheeks and forehead and I kind of felt like my makeup wasn't set enough. I just prefer actual powders. When I blotted with it, I used the sponge and it did work. Again I just personally prefer to blot with powder. It's easier and feels more effective to me. What I did like about using it was my face did not look as powdery as it would if I used a regular powder, and it felt very light on my skin. Like I didn't even apply any extra product.

Pros:

Not greasy

Doesn't feel heavy or cakey

Nice packaging

Did control my oily skin, not fully though.

Cons

More tedious to apply than a regular powder

I think this product would work very well for people who only have slightly oily skin. I used this product alone for review purposes but I feel if I combined it with some other products I've been using it would really help combat my oily skin. It's definitely an interesting new product for the drugstore and I think it's really a personal preference product. I'd love to know if any of you have tried this and loved it? I do like it and plan to keep using it! I picked it up for, I believe, 8 dollars at Meijer.

I hope you enjoyed this review! Thank you so much for reading :)

  1. This might be nice for my combo skin. Is it more of a creamy consistency?
